24 things I have learned about my son

With a shoutout to a previous blogpost from our travel to adopt Kate (October 18, 2008), I thought I would share some of the things I have learned about Jack since we met one week ago today...
1.  He is absolutely perfect.
2.  Though he showed an early preference for his mom, he is now very much Daddy's boy (though it's much more balanced than with Kate)
3.  He is very easy.
4.  His lip looks great, his gumline looks intact, and his hearing seems pretty good.
5.  He loves to eat whatever is given to him... usually with something in both hands and both cheeks full while asking for more.
6.  He prefers to eat whatever I'm eating (it's better for my diet I suppose)
7.  He always wants to go.  He likes to walk, ride in the stroller, carried in my arms, or even carried in the baby wrap.
8.  He does NOT like to stay still for very long.
9.  Besides "mama," I think his other first English word is "hat"... mostly from a game we play with a toy we brought :)
10.  He's still much more of a baby than I thought he would be, with slobber, diapers, bibs, crib, etc.
11.  He likes to hit both brothers, sister, dad, tablets... he doesn't understand "gentle" yet.
12.  He seems to be bonding well so far... even pushing away Chinese-speaking people who try to get too close.  That always amazes me.
13.  He changes his mind on food already... maybe bananas, maybe tomatoes, maybe lichee, maybe oranges--depending on his mood, I guess.
14.  The kids are really good with him.  Of course our natural little one-helper, Will, is great, but Kate and Ben go out of their way to entertain and help out.
15.  He gets super grumpy when he's hungry and/or tired... and lets you know it!
16.  He's got this grin and laugh that comes easy, but for a split second when he flashes it, you think it might be the opposite reaction.
17.  His head is super hot; not on the forehead, but the top and back on usually on fire.
18.  Along with that, he's sweaty all the time (like his big sister).
19.  He's got some super sharp fingernails, and uses them when he's mad-- Ouch!
20.  He's ticklish on his tummy and feet, and has a very sweet laugh. :)
21.  He loves bathtime.  I think he could stay in there for hours if we let him.
22.  At naptime or bedtime, he screams for a few minutes, but falls to sleep pretty quick and sleeps well.
23.  When I tell him "no" or refuse him something he wants, he won't make eye contact with me for a while (mean daddy).
24.  He is more wonderful than I deserve!

Leaving for China

If you're reading this you probably know that my family is leaving next week for China to complete our second adoption. And since I completely dropped the ball when it comes to blogging, I'm not going to pretend to have resumed. However, a few of you might stop by because you know that last time we traveled, I did post pictures, videos and journal entries from our trip (check October 2008). But for that sort of thing this time around, you are safer to follow my wife's blog www.raisingtomatoes.blogspot.com.
However, here are a few picks we have of our son, Jack Yintao.
